Part eight

Identity statements

Not generic affirmations. Statements you've earned the right to say.

Research on positive affirmations is genuinely mixed, and repeating a statement completely disconnected from your actual evidence can backfire, especially for exactly the person who needs it most. That's the same shortcut Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 already warned you against: a declared story doesn't hold if it isn't earned.

Build these from your own small-wins tracker in Chapter 19. Format: "I am someone who ____, because on [date] I ____."

Follow-through

I am someone who follows through, because I finished four days of writing I wanted to quit on twice.

Boundary

I am someone who can set a boundary, because I said no to my uncle on the phone and stayed calm.

Rebuild

I am someone rebuilding, because I've logged twelve days in a row on the goal I named in Chapter 18.

Open hand

I am someone who can love without fusing, because I have a self that survives being left — and I still choose to stay willing.

Write it here

Write one earned statement from this week's evidence. Format: I am someone who ____, because on [date] I ____.

Say them when the old sentence tries to run instead. They'll hold, because unlike the old one, these are actually true.
